Descant and harmonization

Christ the fair glory
For Jürgen Liias, Michaelmas
1997

About

This is a majestic French tune paired with an equally majestic ninth century monastic text, Christ the Fair glory of the holy angels. Though it seems exclusively reserved for Michaelmas (Sept 29) the words are well suited to feasts of Saints, and even of Mary. The text references Christ (more glorious than the angels), the three archangels named in the Scriptures: Michael (protector, named in both the old and new testaments), Gabriel (herald), and Raphael (healer). Also invoked are Mary, the angels and all saints. Click here to read the text
